PARKSIDE: PERFORMANCE HALL

Music. Movement. Community Engagement. These are the principles which define many of Austin's most celebrated public spaces. The Austin Performance Center, one of a series of acoustic pavilions designed along the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail, harnesses the sounds of wind, water, and the movement of people to create a natural melody for joggers and bikers moving along the east west axis of the park. The structure connects the bustle of downtown with the activity of the park. It hugs the street edge, and the exterior structure takes its form in order to create an new threshold to the park. The structure also separates bike traffic from pedestrian traffic along a difficult portion on the trail through an elevated glass bridge which weaves through the form of the building.
