EAST AUSTIN HOUSING

The Saltillo district in east Austin is an area of the community which is rapidly being revitalized. The project is a mid-rise, mixed-use, residential complex. It is intended to foster community interaction and provide a sanctuary within the city for its residents. Young professionals flocking to Austin need a place to relax and forge new friendships.
The Saltillo District Housing endeavors to create a community. It sits on a narrow site on the edge of a busy street. The front of the building holds the street and provides light retail space for a micro-grocery. The center of the block opens up into a shared courtyard which folds up onto the facade of the adjoining town house units in order to create the illusion of a larger space. Additionally the building provides terraces which act as both circulation and shared balconies for residents.
